Murray Puts The Penguins In The Win Column
The Pittsburgh Penguins are the two-time defending champs, but they didn’t get off to a good start as they lost their first two games of the year, which included a 10-1 loss at Chicago in their 2nd game of the year. Well, they finally got into the win column thanks to a 4-0 win over the Nashville Predators, who they beat to win the Stanley Cup last year. Dating back to last year’s finals, the Pens have now blanked the Preds three times in a row. Matt Murray has been a part of all three shutouts as the Preds just can’t figure him out. On Saturday, he stopped all 26 shots in the game for his first win of the year. Last year, he was 32-14 with a 2.41 GAA overall, including 15-9 with a 2.31 GAA on the road. In his career, he has gone 20-10 with a 2.33 GAA on the road and 20-8 with a 2.69 GAA against the Metro Division, including 2-2 with a 4.43 GAA against the Capitals. Scoring in the win over the Preds was Evgeni Malkin, which was his 1st of the year, Jake Guentzel, which was his 1st of the year, Ryan Reaves, which was his first of the year and Olli Maatta, which was his 2nd goal of the year. The Penguins are still one of the best teams in the league, despite their 1-2 start, but they are taking on a tough customer in this one, especially since the Caps are looking for some revenge.

Caps Take Tough Loss In Tampa
The Washington Capitals are once again one of the best teams in the league and they did get off to a nice 2-0 start, but they come into this game off a tough 4-3 OT loss at Tampa Bay. The Caps actually had a 2-0 lead after the first period and a 3-2 lead heading to the 3rd, but they just couldn’t hold the lead and suffered their first loss of the year. Now they have their sights set on getting some revenge on a Pittsburgh team that has knocked them from the playoffs in each of the last two years. Washington was 32-9 at home last year and 29-12 at home the year before, so this is a team that plays very well here at the Verizon Center. Scoring in the loss to the Bolts was Nicklas Backstrom, which was his 1st of the year and T.J. Oshie, who scored twice in the game and now has three goals on the year. Taking the loss in the game was Philipp Grubauer, who was making his fir start of the year, He did stop 36 of the 40 shots that he faced, but it just wasn’t enough. The Capitals ranked 3rd in the league in scoring, during the regular season last year at 3.18 gpg, while also ranking 13th in shots taken (30.4 spg) and 4th in power play conversions, converting on 23.1% of their chances. At the defensive end of the ice they were very strong as they ranked 1st in goals allowed, giving up just 2.16 gpg, while also ranking 4th in shots allowed (27.8) and 7th in penalty kill, allowing teams to convert on 16.2% of their chances.
